Born a Crime
Non-Fiction book about Noah's childhood in South Africa
Author: Trevor Noah
I have to say, I really enjoyed this book! I admit, I didn’t know much about South Africa or apartheid before reading it so I appreciated learning something new. But more than that, I really liked Noah’s writing style. Like his TV persona, he’s very relatable and funny, but in this book he still manages to actually “say” something (by that I mean he has a real message beneath all that humor and wit). He taught me what the difference between being black, white, and coloured means in South Africa, how growing up poor didn’t crush his spirit, and how the strong women in his life made him a strong man. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and will recommend it to others, with the caution that he swears ALOT in the book. No sex, but lots of four-letter words. :0)
